Hello!
Thank you for visiting The Warehouse Dance Academy's official website. TWDA was founded in January 2021 to encourage everyBODY to dance. Here at The Warehouse Dance Academy, we strive to not only teach dance but to teach life lessons and confidence. We believe that everyone has the power to be their own person and should be able to explore that at any age or gender. We also believe that creativity and individuality are key and should be respected and we should be allowed to explore that without being judged.
My Story
Hello! My name is Monet Sumter. I am the founder and CEO of The Warehouse Dance Academy. I started dancing when I was 2 and immediately found my passion. I first started in ballet, then I moved on to jazz and tap. As I got older and started competing, I realized that I could have a dance career and that I didn't have to stop after high school. I was introduced to majorette in the 7th grade when my middle school principal suggested that I should join the band at the high school I would be attending. I went to the first practice and fell in love so I spent the next four years training in majorette as well as jazz, technique, lyrical, hip hop, and occasionally acro/tumbling, and ballet. I stopped dancing completely during my senior year during the peak of COVID-19 in 2021. During that time I reflected on what I wanted my future to look like and saw myself in a dance studio, making people of all ages confident in themselves and giving people the experience of dance. The next day I was sitting down making plans for the first season and reaching out to people that I thought would be interested. Every day since that day has been a blessing and I am forever grateful for our growing family!
